Doppler Studies
Carotid Doppler
A carotid ultrasound is performed to test for narrowed carotid arteries. Narrowed arteries increase the risk of stroke.
Carotid arteries may be narrowed due to plaques which are made up of fat, cholesterol, calcium and other substances.
Early diagnosis and treatment of a narrowed carotid artery can reduce chances of a stroke.
Carotid ultrasound is recommended if you have transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) of any symptoms suggestive of narrowing od the carotid arteries.
